Regardless which directx they're using, what can the geforce8500gt be compared to in raw power? I mean compared to highest ends in previous generations. Something like geforce 8500gt = geforce 6800ultra?

What about the geforce 8300gs (not sure if it was released already), would it be compared to what, geforce 4 4600 or something?

the 8600 - is a little better than a cheapish 7900
the 8800GTS - is like a good 7950 - and then some
the 8800GTX - is a new level of GPU
the 8500 - is reall for bufget gamers, and family use, it sort of like a good 7600 gs

and i have seen the 8300 yet, but like always it will be just good enough for basic use, really a little better than bult in graphics - if your posting on this forum, then i would consider buying one.

so could i say that a 8500gt would outperform by a small margin a ati 9800xt for example?

The 8500 GT is comperable to the old 6600 GT, which is a little more powerful than the 9800 XT.

All would probably perform relatively close though.

An 8500 is more powerful than that

an 8500 is NOT more powerful than that. A 6600GT will beat it on game fps about 70% of the time.

If you want cheap the 8500/8600 is ok,but if you want powerful, better stick with 8800.
