Rom is a fictional character in the Star Trek universe, played by Max Grodénchik on Deep Space Nine. He is a Ferengi, the son of Keldar and Ishka, brother of Quark, and father of Nog.

Read Only Memory: memory whose contents can be accessed and read but cannot be changed. Most common is the BIOS. Other types of ROM are: PROM, EPROM, EEPROM, and CD-ROM.

PROM is programmable - stores the firmware... when the program is written to a PROM, some of the fuses are blown to leave a logic pattern permanently on the chip.
EPROM is earasale Programmable - Old school stuff... Used ultraviolet light to erase... was replaced by EEPROM.
EEPROM is Electrically Eraseable Programmable - similar to flash memory.

If you shake the manual, it will fall out of it.

Usually the only ROM on your mainboard is your Bios-Chip. Check your mainboard manual where to find it.
