System has a card reader with 5 slots. After installing Windows XP, DVD drive became I and CD-Rom became J. I unplugged the card reader, changed the drive letters so that the DVD is E and the CD-Rom is F. Rebooted and plugged the card reader in. Now the driver letters are right but the name and icons for the drives are wrong. The DVD drive is called "Multimedia Card Reader (E)" and the CD-Rom is "Flash Device (F)" with the corresponding icons.

How can I change the device names and icons for the DVD and CD-Rom drives?

Well, I'm out of time. I'm going to wipe and reload with the card reader unplugged. Hard to believe you can't just change it. Oh well.
