work pcs have just been replaced with
cpu amd 5200
2 gig ram.

but at the same time they have moved from office 2003 to office 2007 and the response time on my new machine is the same as the machine replaced. and yes I have turned off desktop search.
effectively the machine is running two simultaneous operating systems CDAN and XP.

CDAN is used to connect to client network, and this runs as a virtual pc, having its own software installed.

the question I have is what is the recommended spec for a pc just running office 2007 based applications?

I believe we have been given under-powered machines, trying to prove to management that the machines which are at the beginning of a 3 year life cycle will not cut it in 18 months time is difficult, they want to see numbers.

cheers

The requirements are incredibly basic. Just 500 Mhz and 256 MB of RAM.

Running a virtual environment is likely what is slowing things down so great. That's far more process intensive than MS Office 2007.
