I have Vista Home Premium installed on my new computer. I want to get the contents of a folder that was on my old Desktop from my previous OS (Win XP) and move it to my new desktop. I have located the folder in question.

For some reason I cannot copy the files from the folder into a new folder. Everytime I try I get the Destination Folder Access Denied message.

I have gone into the folder in question (as well as the root Desktop folder) and changed the permissions to give me full control over the folders. But it still won't let me transfer. I am now listed as the Owner of the folder as well.

What am I doing wrong???

You have to take ownership of the folder.

As I said, I am listed as Owner of the folder. Is there something else I need to do to take ownership?

You have to take ownership of the folder and all of its contents, not only the folder.

How? You mean each file inside the folder? That doesn't work either...

Thanks, I appear to have fixed the problem.
