Now im upgrading my motherboard, i called Microsoft and even though its OEM vista since i had to upgrade my mobo cuz the other one died i bought a whole new mobo and they said they guess theyll activate it..but i hear this is common? is that true

and would the oem recover dvd i got with my comp work on the motherboard..its not locked to any hardware they dont lock

It depends on who the OEM is. If it's HP or Dell, then the recovery DVD probably won't work. Unless you bought a very different motherboard, you shouldn't have to recover.
