Drivers normally are not required to install Vista. What else is installed in your system? Did you boot from a USB DVD-RW?

Is the HDD detected by the BIOS? Is it in the list of bootable devices?

Then Vista should have no problems finding it, unless it's defective. What was installed on it before?

Then there's something wrong with the hard drive, the SATA cable or a BIOS configuration.
