Connected but no connectivity(laptop)

i have a compaq presario 2200 with XP home addition. i had a recent problem with the hard drive. i was able to reformat it and get the drive to work again, but another problem arose. now when trying to connect to the internet i have signal but no connectivity. maby its something in the registry, i dont know. i have reinstalled the drivers and updated them and still no dice. can any1 help? elhamiltonjr@aol.com

ok, calm down. First, i want to say that i am no a pro, just a noob. So, here my question :

-are you wireless or wired through a router or traditional modem?
-when u bought the laptop, is it ready to use( i mean u no need to install anything to make it run)
-where u get your driver? is it from internet or cd supplied to you?
