my laptop randomly exits out of the internet and microsoft word and it will randomly bring up new windows i dont click on and erases text and dell support said it was software and something idid like a virus but what do you think it is and can i fix it without having to pay dell to fix it and iv done a system reboot and unistalled and reinstalle vista nad all that.. thanks

you reinstalled the OS and it still happens? A reinstall would wipe out everything and start from scratch and almost certainly kill any virus or solve any software issue..

This randomly opening and closing sounds like maybe a virus but also, if you are not used to the 'mouse gestures' on the trackpad this can happen.

Anyway if it is a virus or malware download this, just click on the text: http://dw.com.com/redir?edId=3&sit [...] l-10804572

first save the file (don't run it yet) then install it, run it and let it find and clean any malware it finds. Since you are in Vista you may have to right click on the file after you download it and choose 'run as administrator', which is why I said to save it first and then run it. .
