Last January, I went from 2 GB to 4 GB ram, and installed Vistax64. Between 25 Jan and 26 Jan, I downloaded ~97 KB updates prior to be offered SP1 via live update. I filed a 'feedback' form, but have heard nothing in return. ( Feedback is still a one-way street.) I am going to do a system upgrade soon, and thought about the issue with live update. Searched MS KB and web for slipstreaming SP1 into Vista, and got conflicting answers. Seems that SP1 must be installed after the WGA update, or some such, but there were suggestions that there was a SP1 'install pack' that could be slipstreamed using vLite. No mention of this 'install pack' in KB, and no links to it in articles I browsed.
So, two questions:
Has the update order in live update changed since end of Jan. to order SP1 ahead of all of the other updates that are part of SP1?
Has anyone sucessfully slipstreamed SP1 into Vista, and how?
Thanks all. I'll try Ghislaing's link later today between laundry loads... I've got a spare drive to test it on, so no harm done (unless I burn some expensive coasters!)
For those that care, Ghislaing's link worked. Not a treat, but... Read through the entire link (and the included link about shrinking) and you might be able to do this 'simple' task in only six hours... Took me 16 hours, off and on, but the end result - Laundry's done, Vista sp1 is slipstreamed into Vista , and a scratch drive used as a guinea pig to test it. And, only one coaster!
Not the simple task that slipstreaming was in XP, but do-able.
