I've been installing it for about 24 hours now and it's only on expanding files (61%). It is still progressing but VERY slow. I've had Vista up on this machine before but the only new difference is that it is with a replacement hard drive from manufacturer warranty and with a brand new LG all in one optical drive. The previous hard drive had completely died so I replaced it and now the optical drive previously used is being used in another machine. The only two things I can come up with are is that I have a defective brand new LG optical drive or the hard drive I was sent for warranty from Western Digital is a refurbished POS that is not working.
This problem usually turns out to be the optical drive - try another for the install and your problem will likely go away - it's probably not defective but instead has a specific issue with the Vista install for some unspecified reason, perhaps due to the drivers the install program has loaded.

nope. tried a known working optical drive. tested the RAM. currently trying from another Vista disc. if that doesn't work I'm forced to test BOTH hard drives that I'm working with. tried it onto both different hard drives one is IDE and one is SATA. odds both hard drives are not faulty. possibly leaning towards a fubared mobo at this point.
