Suggestion:

1) download System Rescue CD at Sourceforge -- http://sourceforge.net/projects/systemrescuecd/files/sysresccd-x86/2.5.0/ -- then burning it at no more than 8-10X to CD. Once done, go to BIOS and tell it to boot to cdrom (F12?) and do so. Keep hitting <Enter> until the multi-colored prompt on the page that tells user to type "startx" is reached; type in "startx" and bring up the yellow-colored window with another prompt; here, type in "gparted" and delete unwanted partitions, then format entire hard drive (or desired partitions, as the case may be) to ext2 file system.

2) go to http://peppermintos.com, download and burn peppermint3 i386 version to burn to CD as above.

3) Install making sure you are connected to the internet.
