What would you have done if you were on NCIS

This weeks episode they did a scene were they tried to get into a hackers computer, they used dmms and wires to "reroute" the power, "smeared" the screen and attached wires to the ram brackets. It looked to be a Dell precision laptop, they removed the HDD as well if I saw correctly. Basically a mess, it went up in smoke. What would you have done?

Like all these shows there's a whole lot of the "Hollywood creative license" going on. However, techniques quite similar are used in forensic collections.
