Confuse about 32 and 64 bit windows xp

Will the programs that works on 32 bits windows XP work also on 64 bits windows XP?

Also, can a processor built with 64 bit architecture work with 32 bits windows XP?

Sorry, i dont really know the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit architecture so i must ask this questions before i get a system with one of them.

32 bit programs work on 64 bit Windows...

ALL processors from the last 4 years or so are 64bit.
