No, this isn't like Carfax where you can just run the VIN number on the car to get its history. If you're buying from retailers, they will mention it's refurbished. If you're buying online from stranger, then proceed with caution. You have no idea if it's working or prone to fail or not. Be cautious when purchasing online from people you don't know.

Oh and if it IS from strangers, you really can't be careless. It could be stolen. Worse case scenario, they didn't clear anything and it has some tracking software like Lojack and the original owner will get the cops on you.

I guess you could try emailing the customer service department of the manufacture and see if somebody reported it stolen.
