I just installed an updated driver for my 4870x2 on my XP Pro. I also have Vista 64bit installed on another partition so I can dual boot. When I rebooted my XP Pro the screen went black with the screen saying the video was "out of range" and it never recovered. I tried rebooting into safe mode but because Vista dominates the dos menu F8 only gives me the option to go into VISTA's safe mode.

I need a way to alter the screen resolution and Mhz for my WinXP Pro while in Vista 64 (what I'm typing from right now).

If I can't actually change it, mabye theres something I can change or delete to force XP Pro to go back to using the default display driver when I next load XP Pro.

Thanks!

You should be able to boot XP Pro into VGA Mode using F8.

Uh, I said in my first post that F8 gives me options that only effect Vista...

Where do you get the choice of XP or Vista? Once you select XP you should be able to use F8 to get the boot menu.

Strangely it fixed itself. I got up thismorning and while trying to get XP options it went into XP and the screen was fine... very strange.

Thanks for trying to help.

To answer your question though, after the spot in the dos loading screen where it'll check for a floppy/cd it'll go to a dos screen that lets me choose between Vista or "an earlier version of windows". Once I click one of those it starts to load that version of windows right away. If I use F8 it gives me the standard options but only for Vista.

Anyways, it fixed itself thankfully. Hopefully I won't have this problem again.

Thanks

Edit: I just wanted to add that at the screen where I can select Vista or "an earlier version of windows" if I have Vista selected I can hit F8 and go to the options screen but if I have "ealier version of windows" highlighted F8 does nothing.
