I want to get rid of linux but can't install to external Hard drive

My hard drive got fried so i have to run off of an external hard drive. but i can not format my external. it always says that it is busy. how can i fix this and get windows 8 on my external with no internal hard drive.

  1. You cant format a drive if your currently booting from it. Pop in a live cd and then format it.
  2. This question would be better off in the Windows 8 section of the forums.

    I don't think it is possible to run an OS of an external disk with no internal. Maybe you can, but I think it's unlikely. You need a BIOS that allows it and maybe also an internal disk for the master boot record.
