Any good 92mm fans?

I'm looking at replacing my current, quite noisey 80mm fans in my face, I noticed my case seems to take the next size up, which I assume is 92mm (it's not much bigger and I'm fairly sure the old ones are 80mm and not smaller, will measure later).

I'm really struggling to find benchmarks of anything other than 120mm fans and you can't just get hold of a SilenX IXTREMA in the UK, otherwise I'd probably grab their quietest 2 of their 92mm fan.

Thanks for any help you can give :)

P.S

At the moment its this:

I'd go with the Akasa......is a more respected name and info on the fan specs are more widely available. I never trust a product where I've never even heard of the company or can't easily get info on them.

Akasa gets my vote.

I got a cheap Xilence PSU when building my mums computer once, very quiet for the price of £30. But o.k thanks :)

I have several of these 92mm fans. I use the enclosed attachment with some of them. One fan has been running for more than five years.

The one running for 5 plus years is getting loud. I have been meaning to change it. Yeah, I would say the fans are a little louder than a lesser fan or a fan that turns less rpm. They are effective however.

Sorry to change subject a little, but is that indeed the best choice?

I've heard their numbers are really skewed (14 dB, come on!) so I was a bit concerned because the fan would be for my Thermalright HR-03 vga cooler.

Well all fan numbers are skewed when you look at them compared to benchmarks, but fans specs often do appear to be in a correlation between what they say and reality, as in if one fan says it's quieter than another, it more often than not is.

But honestly I don't know, Anandtech used the 120mm one in a few of their reviews testing testing heatsinks, so you can see how it compared to other fans in some respects on both of these reviews:

http://www.anandtech.com/casecooling/showdoc.aspx?i=2965
http://www.anandtech.com/casecooling/showdoc.aspx?i=2962

Seems to vastly out perform the default fans for these heatsinks at least, which themselves I imagine at least mid-high quality, not sure you can take much away from it other than that.

My vga cooler (Thermalright HR-03) only takes 92mm, so unfortunately I can't select from the wide array of 120mm's. :-/

Rugger: thanks for the page but I can't seem to find any of them for sale either.

I may have to resort to buying the silenX 92mm. I mean, it's not THAT bad, right?

Shk: Beyond costing $25? You'd be better getting one of the $20 Noctua fans.

Zurtex: Can you post a link to the websites that you can buy from. I can take a look and se if I can find a good deal for you. I've looked at the aria site...any others that you can buy from. On the Aria site, the best options are the Akasa and the Zalman.

Owww, thanks, the other easiet place would be microdirect: http://www.microdirect.co.uk/productlister.aspx?n=2,10&n=72

As both aria and microdirect are in 10 mins walking distance, so no P&P

I would stick with the Akasa or Zalman 92MM fans. If they are too loud, then you should consider getting a fan controller to lower voltage/slow them down.

Thanks, just ordered a fan controller earlier today, will pick up 2 Akasa fans tomorrow :)

I've bought the Akasa fans, plugged them directly in to a molex 4 pin plug just to see how they sounded, was pretty quiet, but then there was the rest of the noise of my computer. Even so had to put my ear about 20cms close to the fan before I could hear it.

I will do a better subjective review of them when I install them and I can listen to them in almost silent conditions.
