Hey guys I'm trying to set up multiple user accounts for a single machine. However the issue I get when one of the other users log in is could not update ICEauthority file /home/<user>..ICEauthority. I can log in just fine as the admin but they can't.

Here is a bit more information
ls -la for /home
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Dec 2 15:35 .
drwxr-xr-x 23 root root 4096 Dec 1 23:54 ..
drwxr-xr-x 24 administrator administrator 4096 Dec 2 15:21 administrator
drwxr-xr-x 2 root ellison 4096 Dec 2 15:35 ellison
drwx------ 2 root root 16384 Dec 1 23:19 lost+found

ls -la for /home/administrator
drwxr-xr-x 24 administrator administrator 4096 Dec 2 15:21 .

I created a group ellison to house the group of users. I also changed the group to ellison for ICEauthority For the time being let's assume i created the users wrong. Would that be the reason why it won't work? What is it that I'm doing wrong? All the create user guides didn't mention this being an issue. Also If you guys need more info please let me know.

The permissions of the home directory look wrong to me, and that's what the error message is telling you. The users have no write access to their home directory! It is normal for a user to own their root dierectory not "root". I'm not quite sure why you are doing it that way, but if that's what you want the group "ellison" needs write access.

I thought that might be the issue. Makes sense seeing as I did all of this through the users and groups program. I'll give this a try and post back later. Thanks for the assist ljack!

I tried giving write permissions with the following commands chown, chgrp, and chmod. So who should be the owner of the home directory? Me(admin) or root? To what group should it belong to? ellison? Is there anything else I'm missing?

Thanks guys! The solution was simple to execute once I knew what I was actually supposed to be doing. Simply create their own folder to play around in, point there home folder there, give them permissions on said folders and done. Thanks again ljack and ex_bubblehead..
