5.1 surround sound noise at low and high levels

OK people here we have a bog standard onboard Realtek HD Audio 7.1 surround sound audio plugged into a set of 5.1 surround sound speakers. When I turn the volume down getting close to min, or close to max, i get a background buzz. Any ideas on solving this?

The 5.1's are plugged into the right ports with 3 cables (i.e. one for left right, one for centre and sub, one for back two.)

Any ideas on recitifying this as its annoying the hell out of me?!

Any suggestions would be greatly recieved.

Does the noise go away if it isn't connected to the sound card?

Yes.

It's as soon as one plug goes into a sound port.
