When installing ubuntu can not see windows

Hello,
I installed virtual box in my windows 8, now I attempted to load ubuntu, the all thing starts up , but at panel with questions appears, In this panel
they want to reformat the all disk...there is nom option to keep my windows intact...how come?

Because you are installing in virtualbox...

When installing on vmware you created a virtual hard drive. You are fooling the system that you are installing into believing there is a hard drive all to itself even though the imaginary one (virtual) resides on a physical one. When the installer asks do you want to format the entire drive it is referring to the virtual one, go right ahead.
