Hi,
I have the below setup (see my sign) and I'm looking to upgrade from my stock intel cooler to something better. - Namely something that is going to let me overclock above the 3.2 mark without instability, also something cooler and more reliable would be handy.
I don't want to get a cooler that will require me to take out my motherboard to install as I'm quite lazy.

I've found details on the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and it looks good.

Thoughts? Shocked[/b]

Li-lian PC-7B Plus II, Silverstone ST65ZF 650 WATT, Asus P5B-E, Core 2 Duo E6700, Kingston HyperX DDR 2 800 2 GB, SanDISK U3 Microcruzer 2 GB (ready boost), 2 x Seagate 7200.10 320 GB in RAID 0, Pioneer DVD-RW DVR 112D, LiteON Combo SOHC 5236V, Creative Xfi XtremeGamer, XFX 8800 GTX, Dell Ultrasharp 1907FP, Dell 5650, Brother 2040 HL, Netgeat WPN 111, Vista Ultimate 32

The Freezer 7 Pro is a good, inexpensive HSF. With that rig and the OC that you're considering, I would consider an Enzotech Ultra-X or a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme.

The AC Pro is an excellent budget HSF.

But Rugger is correct. All the reviews, reports, and comments indicate that the Thermalright is one of the best air HSF's currently available.

<Hi, Rugger>

The only reason I didn't buy one is that I wasn't certain it would fit in the case I was using. Good cases over here are scarce, and expensive when you DO find one.

It may be more work, but I recommend that you pull the motherboard if you do replace the HSF. There is a lot of potential for a very expensive "OOPS" if you don't.

How are you liking the AC 7 Pro? How loud is it with your current OC and what OC do you maintain? Ever decide on what you want to do to reach the 3.6 mark?

The AC Pro is worth what I paid for it.

I had hoped to reach 3.6 GHz. If I run the core voltage up to 1.6 v, the chip will run at 3.6 GHz. It's not quite stable at 3.5 GHz at 1.5 volts. I did a 24 hour orthos run (both cores) at 3.4 GHz at 1.45 volts. Then to ensure stability, I dropped the speed to 3.3 GHz. I wpould rather not risk a random reboot while doing something like ripping or burning a DVD.

It's pretty quiet. I still do not have the sides on the case. The loudest thing is the little nVidia chipset fan.

Temps stay under 50 C.

I am going back to the States in July for a semi-vacation. I plan on bringing back a Thermaltake and some better case fans. Then I will try for 3.6 GHz again. If I don't make it - well, a 37.5% OC on a midrange CPU chip is still pretty good. And there's always Penryn. I really don't want to watercool.
