ok never used a modular psu before, is there any extra compatibility i need to know about? any other advice is most welcome :)

If you buy a good brand you should be fine. Just don't buy something like a 'trustworthy mike's 750w modular reliable power supply super edition'.

you want a stronger PSU for ur 8800gts and all the heavy duty hardware you are running
check out mplich's thread under powersupply i dont think that hiper will cut it

Correct. Get a decent supply, no need to be modular. Check out this list

and get a PSU with at least 36 Amps on the 12V rails.

Yeah, it will do one GTX or two GTS. I would get the 620W though so you have a little insurance in case you want to upgrade something.

Personally i would recommend a 750w cause you never know what might happen. Like you might end up switching to hd2900 crossfire and needing a cold fusion generator in your case... Adding a few hdds or another optical drive will put a bit of a strain on the psu, you never know when you will need a blu ray drive...
