Hi,

I just brought and installed a WD 500GB HDD. Its complete name is WD5000AAKS-00TMA0. I have a SATA2 WD 250GB and a 160GB Maxtor IDE drive already (both internal). I installed the new 500GB WD drive into SATA port 3 on my mobo (gigabyte 965p DS3, s775), SATA port 1 =DVDRW, SATA port 2= WD 250GB drive.

The drive is set as either master 2 or 3 in BIOS.

The drive is recognised in BIOS and the device manager. It is working properly in location 0, it is enabled. But under "volumes" it says it is not initialised.

I have tried rolling back the driver, installing any new ones, detecting it in BIOS. But it still isn't coming up in "my computer" or being recognised as new hardware by my computer.

Can anyone help me? How do I initialise this drive? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

In Control Panel select
Administrative Tools
Computer Management
Storage
Disk Management

Initialize the disk and then partition and format.

Much obliged my friend. I tried this before but I failed to see the new drive listed below the other formatted ones, so I thought it wasn't there, but on closer inspection it was. Thanks again :D
