i have a hp5510 all in one on my pc. win xp sp2. was fine till i got a paper jam error. there was no paper anywhere. i have it connected to a usb port on the back of my pc. so i swapped in my epson stylus photo 825 for now. and nothing. my printer icon never comes up in my taskbar when i print something. installed the drivers and it said printer was ready to use. shows ready and 3 in the cue when i open my printer and fax folder. so i went back to the hp and the same thing happens. nothing! they both show ready and documents in the cue. i have tried 2 different usb cables and that didn't help. my camera works fine on the usb port so that isn't it either.

now what?

My first thought would be to check your print spooler process to see if it's running. To do this, hit your start button, go to run, and type in "services.msc" (without the quotes). Scroll down until you see Print Spooler and make sure the service is running. If it is, post back and we'll go from there.

Start with the basics. Have you uninstalled all other old printing software/componenets from Add/Remove Programs? This would kill services not needed anymore.
