Can I continue to use my existing XP Home with upgraded HW (i7). Is the MS OS married to the old CPU & MB or will a phone call get the reinstall running?

I don't quite get your question.......wot do u mean "married" to the old CPU and MB....

Operating System (OS) is a system software, you install that on your hardrive. Upgrading your motherboard and CPU does not affect anything on your hardrive............

If it's a full commercial version then you can re-use it;
if it's an OEM version then (officially) you'll need a new copy;
if it's a DELL version then it will only install/run on a DELL MotherBoard.

It's a commercial edition. Off and on I've read that Microsoft tied the OS to the motherboard. This may have been from someone who bought a new computer and tried to migrate, but in that case it should have already had the OS installed. Very few consumers build their computers and I wasn't sure if I would get stuck with an additional expense during the upgrade. I have XP and will wait until MS7 is fairly safe. Thanks for all your response's. TW
