The system and the numbers.
Intel E6600
Gigabyte 965P-DS3 (3.3), BIOS F11
Antec Solo Case (two additional 92mm fans)
Thermalright U-120 Extreme with Scythe 1200 rpm fan
Patriot 2 GB of PC2-6400 800MHz (4-4-4-12), 2.2v
BFG 8800GTS/640MB (factory overclocked at 550)
I've built this PC as a gaming system for my nephew (he's got a good job and is paying for the parts).I wanted it to run stable at 3.2 GHz, I'll deliver it at 2.4 and overclock if he wants it.
While running TAT, ATITool and EasyTune at the same time, for at least 1 hour.
2880 MHz (FSB 320, Ratio 9, Mem 4-4-4-12) Voltages set to Auto BIOS control.
CPU (TAT): 34 Centigrade
System (EasyTune): 42 Centigrade
8800GTS (ATITool): 82 Centigrade
ATITool FPS: 865 AVG
3200 MHZ (FSB 400, Ratio 8, Mem 4-4-4-12) Voltages set to Auto BIOS control.
CPU (TAT): 37 Centigrade
System (EasyTune): 45 Centigrade
8800GTS (ATITool): 82 Centigrade
ATITool FPS: 865 AVG
The reason I've got it set to Auto Voltage control is stability. When I ran things on manual, blue screen of death. The Patriot memory even though it is spec'ed at 2.2 volts, the PC didn't like it (BSoD). At 2.4 and 2.88 GHz I found that in manual mode, 1.9 volts worked best. The Auto BIOS control sets it for the same. CPU was using 1.325.
At 3.2 GHz in manual mode I tried Memory at 2.1 volts and CPU at 1.375, BSoD. I set it to Auto and it is running stably. EasyTune is reporting Memory at 2.1 volts and CPU at 1.41. There are voltages that the Auto setting might be tweaking for stability, such as FSB, which I know nothing about. So, I figure it is working, leave it alone.
I am using the EasyTune software to control fan speeds. I don't know if this a good idea or not. but it is easy.
Any comments, adivce most appreciated.
