Can anyone help please, i have a compaq presario 5000 (i know its old but I love it)i lost the restore cd, so I wiped the disc clean and tried to install windows XP but to no avail, just does not install, also having trouble getting hold of the restore disc, even compaq/hp do not have one for this model.

Can you explain what happens when you try to install XP? It should install it without problems.

if the HDD has a partition with the netldr on it it will not install, you may need to get a copy of Gary's(?) Glarys(?) Boot and Nuke (free), or Acronis, to write zero's to the HDD so you can do a reinstall
