GOD AM I PISSED, just when i fixed the DMA mode problem on my PC, my laptop then screwed up. Probably coz Friday 13th it carried on the bad luck till today as well
Anyway i need to fix this ASAP, it's very urgent and is important to me. I was using my laptop yesterday and everything was working fine, i turned it off and came back to it after a few hours and it wouldn't boot past the load screen.
It showed this error message with a BSOD background:
Stop: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SYSTEM or its log or alternate is corrupted or missing
I tried copying the files from cwindows/repair and overwriting it to my cwindows/system32/config folder as well as trying from CSystem Volume Information folder (where it contains System Restore backups) and i used the 2 newest PRX folders which contained the Snapshot folder with the system files in it, but both methods don't work.
Well, it did but i got the same error message except this time it's saying that the SECURITY file is corrupted or missing, i.e it shows this:
Stop: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SECURITY or its log or alternate is corrupted or missing
basically it's the same error message as the first one i posted above, except this time it's the SECURITY file that's got problem.
The thing is, i copied all 5 system files, not just one. I.E, i copied:
System
Software
Security
Sam
Default
but i just can't get it fixed.........
I have tried Chkdsk /r and Chkdsk /p
as well as FIXMBR and FIXBOOT commands, but they don't fix the problem.
Any ideas guys? I've done exactly everything advised on those sites i've posted, all the other sites i found have the same instruction/solution and i've tried them all. I really don't wanna format because i have important files on it and just way too much stuff, i don't wanna waste time reinstalling everything.....
oh NVM i fixed it!! I just tried an older PRX folder from 2 days ago, and it worked.
The PRX folder is the backup made by System Restore, if anyone has the same problem as me i suggest try an older one, don't try the newest 2 or 3.
E.g. I have PRX folders from PRX1 to PRX125, I first tried PRX125 and PRX124 where it contains the most recent system files in the Snapshot folder, but they don't work, so then i tried PRX115 which is from 2 days ago and it worked fine.
