My son just attached a Samtron 77V monitor to his HP desktop system which is running Windows XP.

When he booted, after a few moments he received the message "Sync. Out of Range" in a box that floats on the screen. The screen background is otherwise black.

Any thoughts?

Do we need to add a driver or is there some other set-up matter to consider?

The refresh rate is set too high for the Samtron. Hit the power button to turn off the PC. Power on and F8 to get the Windows Boot menu. Choose VGA Mode. Try different resolutions/refresh rates. Reboot.
