I have recently experienced problems with my CPU temp reaching 54C when I'm merely using Media Player and surfing the net. I've even been leaving the cover off of my case. My CPU is running at stock 2.2 GHz. I used to be able to run it OC'd to 2.5 GHz (room temp 68F). Why am I having trouble all of the sudden. The room my PC is in is 72F degrees. Is that too warm? Any ideas? At what temp is my CPU getting damaged?
Thanks!
PS: As I typed this, my temp was 48C and I was only running Explorer, besides the background apps. My CPU usage was about 50% on both cores.
50% CPU usage on both cores? I think you got a virus or your virus scanner is running without you knowing.
You'll have to excuse me, it's late. I had Folding@Home running. Now, my usage is fluctuating between 1% and 5%. And the temp has dropped to 32C. I never that thought the temp would rise that much while running Folding@Home! Guess, I'll remove that from my Startup options. Sorry to waste your time!
Might be a good time for your to do a fresh install of your OS. Sounds to me you got virus and or malwares running in the background. What kind of cpu cooler do you have and when is the last time you applied a fresh coat of thermal compound?
