Windows take a long! time to start

hi so i have posted others on this topic but heres the problem my computer takes forever to start windows vista (q9450 gtx280 780i and 4 gb of ram) i don't know how long it takes but i would say over an 20 minutes just to start maybe more now i was having problems where it wouldn't start ( when i say it wouldn't start i mean it gets all the way to the green bar stays on that for about 2 minutes then it just goes black) so i reinstalled vista got in downloaded the updates they needed to restart and it didn't work it gave me the same problem i have tried different hard drives as well as clearing the cmos (resetting) its starting to get frustrating so any help would be great thanks
 
Solution
Do a thorough defrag, using an aftermarket utility that defrags boot files.

Check the device manager to see if you have any devices acting up. Often if there is a hardware issue, the OS keeps trying to activate the thing and gets stuck at that step until it times out.

If you have a lot of devices - especially USB - connected to the computer, disconnect them. If the problem goes away, add one back before each time you start up. If you add one and suddenly start up performance tanks, then you have a likely suspect.
