Can you view powerpoint slides and word docs if you don't have office?

Dumb question, but can someone that doesn't have microsoft office view powerpoint, word, excel files? If they can't what would be a free remedy to this? Would open office allow a person to view ms office files?

Thanks

  1. Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

Maybe this link can help you.

  2. http://www.openoffice.org/news/

open office allows you to use Microsoft office files, however if another person does not have openoffice remember to save the document in a file type that can be read by Microsoft office (i.e .doc)
  3. Ok, thanks. I think you can use powerpoint viewer (which is free) to view powerpoint slides as well.
