Computer running with: Windows Vista Basic
Compaq Presario
Model # RQ340UAR
Problem: PS/2 TouchPad stopped working.

1. Successfully uninstalled driver and reinstall driver (Synaptics pointing device-v9.1.11 12Jan07). Touchpad still does not work.

2. Uninstalled driver, went into BIOS and reset it to DEFAULT, start computer and reinstall Synaptics driver successfully. Touchpad still does not work.

Any ideas?

Make sure you haven't turned it off (some Compaqs have a button to turn it on and off and others will have a Fn key combo to do the same). Once you've verified that it is enabled, then it will likely need to be replaced. I had the same issue with a Toshiba laptop... touchpad suddenly quit working... ended up having to get the system board replaced under warranty.
