What's the Best FireWall?
Windows defender or just buy a router with a hardware firewall

I've used the free version of ZoneAlarm, what's really nice is you can set it up so no program can connect to the Internet without your approval

I would suggest a two-layer approach. I strongly suggest using a router as a first line of defense. You should also use a software firewall on each computer inside your network - even if it is a one computer network. I also use the free version of Zone Alarm. It will do a pretty good job and is sufficient unless you need to have greater control over things such as ports.

Hardware router will hide the IP address of your computer from the internet, this is very important. In my sense hardware routers are the best routers.

a firewall software is enough for most general users
personally i suggest "blackice pc-protection"
