First off sorry about this, there really is no good forum for this, so I just decided to ask it here.
I have a $1000 hp pavilion dv9000 from a couple of years ago. I recently got a new desktop, and I'd like to turn the laptop into a work type of laptop. Because of this I was wanting an OS that is really light on it. I was going to wipe it clean anyways, so the question is what OS should I use.
Ubuntu 9.04 (mainly because it's free), Windows XP (low system specs), Vista (what i have now), or Windows 7/RC 1 (because I hear it runs really well on laptops)
what are the specs? If you have two gig of ram and a dual core CPU I'd just stick with Vista, it's really not the system hog some people make it out to be. A gig of RAM? I'd probably go back to XP which is very happy with that much RAM. Be usre you can find drivers though - some laptops made to run Vista lack full XP support.
notherdude u have an old hand. Having an old hand doesnt make sence. Cuz its old. get a new one.. seems like ur hand doesnt understand what it is writing. So placve it in ur rig instead of vista human orgnoids will amke more sense

Alrite thanks, it has two gig of ram, and it is a dual core, so I'll just stick with Vista. The reason I asked is because I wanted to maximize the life of it, and have it run really smoothly. Do you suggest just uninstalling all the programs I don't need?

If you still have the factory install of Vista from HP then yes, I would try to uninstall any and everything I could that isn't necessary - on my Toshiba I did a fresh install of Vista and then added the needed drivers one by one from Toshiba instead of using their factory install. You'll need to use a little caution in making sure you don't uninstall any feature or program you might really want. www.pcdecrapifier.com does a good job of automating this process.
