The chkdsk started on turning on the computer. We shut it down and turned it back on. It is running chkdsk and won't allow us to go into any programs, the mouse isn't even visible, is there a way to stop the chkdsk and get back to the desk top so you can continue to work?

  1. You have to leave it to complete its work, which may take quite a time. Otherwise you risk damaging your file system and losing your data. Whatever you do don't just turn the computer off or reset it.
  2. Thank you so much, but he shut it down once. It has now completed scanning and has come up. Now there is a cloudy area on the right hand side of his monitor. Is it due to him shutting it down?
  3. Can you post a screenshot of this? It would help.

Not to ask the dumb question, but it has to be asked. The 'cloudy area' isn't a smudge of some sort on the monitor is it?
  4. I'd doubt that the cloudy area you describe is related to the chkdsk problem.
