ATA hard drive with new motherboard?

I happen to have an extra 300GB hard drive hovering around me, but it's ATA (you know, ugly frustrating white ribbon cables) and I want to know if I'll be able to use if I buy a new computer. For the motherboard right now I was looking at an evga 650i or the Gigabyte DS3. Do I need an adapter? Will I be losing a lot of performance compared to buying a new SATA drive?
Thanks.

Yeah, you can. You'll only be able to use 1 IDE optical drive, but if you needed more then 1 it would be a better idea to use sata drives anyway...
