My auto updates are saying SP2 for Vista are available today, and have yet to see any articles on it. Anyone else getting the update, and hows it working for you if so?

  1. Guess I should had read deeper into the forums before posting this. Sorry for sucking up space.
  2. Well I've applied it and so far nothing has stopped working, I guess thats a big plus right there EH.

I really cannot tell any difference, not like when SP2 was released for WinXP which was a major overhaul, this SP2 is a lot of fixes from what I've learned about it.

And most of the major things its added and addressed, I don't even use anyway.

Anyhoo I guess we'll see how it pans out, I don't think you have anything to be concerned about though, but if you are, wait, it'll be there.
  3. My audio stopped working...I uninstalled the update and everything is good again.

Microsoft list that as a known possible problem - all you have to do is uninstall the audio driver and reinstall it. No need to uninstall the SP.
  5. So perhaps they should have fixed the SP before releasing it with "known problems."
  6. I did reinstall the audio driver, but still no sound.
  7. The webcam on my ASUS F8 Series laptop stopped working with SP2, I've tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling with no luck. Or it just could be my ugly mug finally broke it, as I used the recognition software to log on.
  8. I've also had my audio hosed by this "fix" and considering that I'm always listening to music on my machine, this is a MAJOR annoyance!
  9. I've tried uninstalling the SP, uninstalling the audio driver and reinstalling it, and still, my sound is completely hosed! I can get the test tones to work using the audio driver, but nothing more. I did find one combination that worked for analog stereo, but even the output from that was far from what it should have been. It was very noisy when it should have been cleanly silent. But yes, audio is hosed.
  10. It's probably much more simple that that. Just check your volume settings thing (where it says something like "playback devices") and see what it "defaulted" to. It's prolly on something like "headphones" instead of "speakers". Check there. It might have done some scan and selected the first audio device it picked up...which wasn't your speakers. Everyone's system is different.

Not the case. I checked. I've done everything should have had to and still NO sound! Now it's not working under digital or analog, SP1 or SP2! I can't system restore it, and even if I do, same deal! ARRRGHHHH!!!

OK, I just gave up, removed a few offending programs and used this as a chance to refresh my installation of SP1. Not a complete reinstall, just an "upgrade."
  13. I'm having the same problem. Installed windows vista update service pack 2, lost sound, then followed the advice of removing sp2, and still no sound :). I'm totally computer clueless so doing all this took me lots of time and reading. have you found a solution for this? can't listen to my music anymore... please someone help!!! damn microsoft!
  14. I think simply reinstalling the same drivers isnt really the best solution, i would recomend that downloading the latest drivers for your sound card, uninstalling the current drivers on your computer rebooting and installing the new drivers, that should work!
