Hi

I got a pc with C2D E6400, asus p5b-e motherboard, 2 gb ddr2 800mhz ram, geforce 8800gts 640 mb grafix card and 19" viewsonic monitor. when I play rainbow six vegas at 1280*1024 with all settings high, I get an average of 41 fps. i dont think my graphics card's performance is so bad. so is my cpu bottlenecking my graphics card?

Should not be too much of a pain, but as memory gets bigger on gpu's and the mb itself, bottlenecking will become more of a factor. Until jack or dewd design an non von neumann system, bottlenecking will always remain a constant problem.

rainbow 6 vegas has been ported from the x-box 360...so i imagine its probaly just the poor game engine thats causing lowish frame rates.40 fps is not all that bad anyway.

What operating system?

Rainbow 6 + Vista + 8800 Vista drivers = lot of problems.

IIRC Vegas is an absolute performance killer... I wouldn't be too worried if I were getting average framerates with that game.

It is very easy to check and see if your CPU is bottlenecking your game. All you need to do is increase your CPU clock speed by 10% and take some before and after FPS benchmarks. Do the same for you GFX card. Whichever one improves performance the most is the one that is your bottleneck. Now if for some reason you cannot overclock   then just underclock it and do the tests. The important thing is to have a valid comparison.

no, it not, it a new game at a big res, if you were to get a new CPU FPS would go up, but not by much, if you want OC it, but tis not realy a worth upgrade.

Sorry I am late. But i appreciate all of your replies. I have just installed ntune and see what happens after overclocking.
