Adding a Second HDD for storage

My original HDD is 160GB sata, and I was looking to add a second 300gb sata drive for file storage only.

I installed the second drive, then went into computer/disk mangement.

The drive is detected but "not initialized", I cannot format/partition the drive.
Am I doing something wrong, or is it not possible? I have used an external drive before, and I was looking to use this in a similar way.

Help would be appreciated, I'm looking to understand what went wrong.

When you say you are unable to partition the drive, do you mean the option is greyed out in the menu (right-click on drive for menu)?

There may also be an option to initialize that may be required first.

Here's a link to installing SATA drives.

Control panel->administration->storage...then you can make it a dymamic drive for storage(format) and check the health of your drive...gl :D
