As I finally decided to move into the flat panel land and spent several
weeks researching my choices, I was not able to find a set that would
be optimal for my requirements. The optimal screen size is actually
37" and the only reason I expand to 32" to 42" is because i was not
able to find a good set in 37" size. I need to start from the fact
that I'm a big fan of Sony TVs - historically they worked very well for
me. The new KDE-37XS955 did not impress me in terms of picture
quality, and the only other set that I was considering in this size is
the Panasonic TH-37PX25U/P. I really do not know much about this set
and the feedback would be very helpful. I saw the 42" from the same
series and the picture was adequate but not outstanding. Now if I
moved one size lower, there is the LCD Sony KDL-32XBR950. Excellent
picture but I would be happier if I was able to find a good choice in
larger size. Moving to 42" - the humangous Sony KDE-42XBR950 is too
big, while the picture is good. Actually the new EDTV Sony in 42" is
quite allright picturewise and sizewise, but the problems are that it
is not a HDTV (and I'm buying to take advantage of this in the future)
and the design is really not to my taste. I read some very good things
about the NEC set 42XR3 and will welcome feedback on it - unfortunately
it is nowhere to be looked at in reality as I'm not aware of any
retailers who would carry it. I also would need to know the size with
the speakers.
Thank you for reading so far and I would greatly appreciate any advice
on my search.

My 2 cents worth. I have owned a Sony KDE-42XBR950 for about a year now and
it has been an excellent set. We have ours mounted on a wall above our
fireplace, and once it has been up there for a while, it doesn't look too
big at all, trust me. If you plan on getting your HDTV OTA, it has a very
good built in ATSC receiver. Also, since all of the interconnections are on
the STB, there is only a power cord and one cable connecting to the display,
which is a plus for wall mounting. Outstanding picture, easy to set up, just
a great set.
