Hi,
I am currently running XP 32 on an I7 920. I suppose I should have XP 64bit, right...?
When I installed XP Pro, I don't remember being asked to select 32 or 64. My legal XP cd is a number of years old - would this only be A 32 bit version or is there a selection for 64..? If not, where do I get the 64 bit version..?

Thanks

Forget Windows XP 64-bit, it's not worth the trouble.

I've had XP 64 since it came out, works fine! Ignore Grumpy! :kaola: It is Vista I have problems with! :pfff:

I have the 64bit version CD,As far as I know There was a thing where you brought the 32 bit version you could exchange the 32 bit for a 64bit version just after you got it! Your 32 bit is a little old now for that exchange! wait for windows 7 would be the best! coming soon!(grin) :bounce:

Me! I've ran into a brick wall,I get a NEW CPU :o Phenom II 940 Black box and two dual channel 1066 OC DDR 2 memory!

I had two 1 TB Seagate drives running RAID fine! first! the CPU was not listed but worked OK as 2 cpu's,Then the BIOS was updated and my Cpu's became 4 ....Great! Then my 1 tb drives DIED! seems the Firmware was bad!OK! :ouch: I,m now back together! and am pulling hair! since I had to reinstall everything! I got XP 64 pro up and running fine! works like a charm with 4 gig and 4 cpu,s! then I installled VISTA Home 64bit and NOW keep getting a BSOD 7E on boot. At this time it brought back memories of the Problems we had with 4 gig before the BIOS was fixed! 2 gig OK! 4gig crash! BUT! XP 64 works fine, and with 4 gig too! VISTA worked for a short time with 4 gig,I then started getting BSOD's...

SO! what is my problem?

Help!!! Dennis

Vista x64 will do you just fine. Running it on both the laptop and desktop with no issues. While XP-64 isn't necessarily bad... driver support for it was somewhat limited compared to Vista-64.

Well! I have BOTH! so speak from using them! Yeah! drivers were a problem, gave the makers excuse NOT to support last years model(grin) thou one of my devices that was deleted in XP was in VISTA!

BUT! now I,m back to the Day,s when trying to install VISTA got you a BSOD. then They fixed the BIOS ,no more problems!

NOW I have a Quad Cpu and it,s back! The funny thing is XP 64bit works fine with 4 gig! I do not haveany problems AT ALL!

XP64 isn't a real good idea. Microsoft never put much effort into fixing the bugs, as vista64 was in production. There are driver issues as noted above, but there is also a lack of software support.

I use XP32 bit because I can't bring myself to switch to vista. I'll wait for windows7. However, if I had to switch now, I'd go with Vista64.
