Ok so here is my situation. well not so much a situation but what I am pondering. I am starting to like the ATI card a little more but will probably wait for the 65nm refresh of it or whatever is next on the menu. My current card is about 8 months old and works fine for me currently. Although I am starting to lower my details and AA settings on newer games so an new card is approaching my budget by the end of the year. My question is this. I see the new ATI cards have a 6 and 8 pin power connector. I believe (2) 6-pins are able to be used but I head an OC wall is hit in this configuration. Although, out of the gate I am not planning to OC but evenually I will.
will this handle an HD2900XT or refresh of it? Do I need an 8pin connector, as i see there are no sub 750w PSU that have them and only 2 750W that do. I don't want to sell a kindney just go get a PSU for a $400 video card.
And no I do not want a GTX, $400 is my limit for a video card. Anything more in my opinion is not work it since I am not a 24/7 gamer.
I am looking to upgrade m PSU sometime before I get a new video card so that I don't get hit with both bills at once... Maybe wait for a good rebate or deal.
As for the GTX, I'm not willing to pay $600 for the performanve when for $400 I can get a 2900 that is on the same level as a GTS640 or better. To me the $200 isn't worth it and with DX10 not really here yet and fully tested with these cards I have yet to place my bets on who is the better performer. That and I'd like to see what the 2900's on 65nm run like. ATI has always "eventually" done well. I love my x1900xtx, it runs like a wild banshee and overclocks really well.
and $100-$150 is about what I was thinking for a good PSU... any recommendations out there? I would be more oped to get this ahead of time since the PSU marker does change as rapidly as the Video card market does.
Wow 49A on a single rail, that's cool. I saw the specs said it has (1) 8pin (12v) connector but didnt see it in the picture. Granted I don't believe pictures half the time, but I've also saw specs that were incorrect to. I keep hearing my buddies say get a Thermaltake. But I've heard some mixed feeling about them as well. Nothing but good things from PC Power and Cooling though.
