well i have two computers and two phonelines. on has a modem with DSL in it. i was wondering if buying another modem and connecting it to the other computer would also give it an internet connection so i wont have to buy a router and adapter just to give both computers internet?

Agree with El0him shouldn't cost you much more and if you ever get another computer, you'll be able to connect it as well. Plus you can back files up from one computer to another. If you've never set up a network before, it's really easy, you'll get a CD that will walk you through it I'm currently using a ZyXEL X-550, never had a problem, very easy to set up and excellent help section

well i already have another computer and this one is using the internet right now, but i was wondering if buying another modem would work to give the other computer internet, and wouldnt buying a router and adapter card for the other computer cost more anyway? also i cant have the computers in the same room or close enough for a wired router

If you get a wireless router and wireless card, doesn't really matter where the computer is. You can get a router for $40

Wireless cards you can get for around $25

I got my daughter the above Netgear Router and D Link card and they work fine with one compute on the first floor and the other updstairs. The wireless router/card is just a better long term investment

if you get another modem.. you have to sign up for another account with the provider... which means another recurring monthly cost for that second computer... etc...etc...etc...

Your second modem will not work unless the provider provisions it in their system and yes, they will love you for it.

I suppose in most cases too much information is better than not enough :)
