WMP12 - pin enhancements and stop controls fading?

I've googled as best I can, and can't find a solution to this problem...

I would like to do two things to Windows Media Player 12 to make it behave more like WMP11:

- stop the playback controls from fading off the 'now playing' screen
- 'pin' the enhancements (EQ, playback speed, etc) to the now playing screen

Any helpful suggestions gratefully received...

Remove and go back to WMP 11. Each version gets larger and more buggy. I use v.9.
