I bought a new Gateway Core i7 PC about 6 weeks ago, running Vista Premium 64 bit. Right out of the box, the number of processes running is close to 100. It had the Office 2007 trail version and Vista itself and some other trail version of software that I don't even use. Is this normal?

My clean re-installed XP Home 7 year old PC only had about 65 processes running - with only windows, Symantec Systemworks and Office 2003.

How do I know if there are unnecessary processes running in my new PC?

Thanks!

Vista comes with some extra crap like that. Simply go to the add/remove programs in the control panel and uninstall the programs you don't want or use. That will remove the process that coincides with it.
