hello all, recently my laptop has been making alot of noise( becuase of temperature and the fans spining) , it is using 100 percent of cpu usage i will say now that i am not good with computers and if u would please answer my question pls do so without high tech abbreviations. Anyways i also read somewhere that it is not suppose to be like that becuase it damages your pc since it is overheating( not only that the noise is annoying) and i also read that a bug or virus might be cauing that. None the less i checked and i dont have any bugs or viruses that I THINK might be causing this problem i also removed some programs which i though where causing that as well nothing happened eitheir. So i come here to ask what is the problem with my laptop and what do i do? Thanks in advance :)

ok, what operating system are you running? XP?

also if you could list the hardware you have, cpu, ram, or just the laptop model number.

if you could hold, control, alt, and press the delete button. this should either open the task manager or a window that you can select "task Manager". once that is open look at the bottom of that window and tell me how many processes are running. windows XP is usually around 30 processes on a healthy computer. this will help determine if its a virus or malware using your cpu.

also do you have any P2P software on it, such as Limewire, morpheus, etc.

I had that on an old PC I am using as a surf and type box. And today I found out it was due to messenger LIVE.
Killing it and uninstalling it gave me a snappy PC back, eventhough it is very old.. Have now standard messenger running and its OK. Gone back from100% to 15 % load

like we said check your processes and make sure theres nothing there that you dont want running.

another trick it to : click START, RUN. type MSCONFIG, and click on the start up button, go through that list and uncheck any programs you dont want to start when you turn on your computer. restart and that will make it start up alot faster and hopefully remove what ever is taking all your resources. but a fresh install of windows will also fix your problem but leave that as a last resort.

if the guy says he doesnt know a lot about this stuff why would you tell him to start messing around in msconfig - this can seriously mess up some laptops. just check the processes and especially keep your eye out for svchost.exe taking up alot of memory and all of your cpu.

Is your XP fully updated? Even if svchost seems to be running all the time, it doesn't necessarily mean it's a virus. I remember an old IBM Netvista I rebuilt on which svchost just went mental and wouldn't let anything else start up. It sorted itself out, but it took a while.

hallu i tried what you sent to me and it still says my pc is using 100 percent cpu but when i start my laptop now some system utility pops ups. I also had a theory about virus companies actually providing and making your computers catch the viruses and make you think that they are helping you computer get better when they are actually making it worse.

the system utility message is just because you changed stuff in your msconfig- im sorry it didnt fix your problem.

*you unzipped the file and then ran it right?
