Installed new DVD burner, now can't play DVDs

I recently installed a new Samsung DVD burner on my Dell Inspiron 2650 notebook. Since then, I know I have watched DVD movies with it, but when I tried to again recently, it wouldn't let me. An error message comes up telling me to reduce my resolution. I tried that, and it didn't work (though, I know I didn't have to do that before to watch movies). The movie name and it's DVD cover will come up on Windows Media player, but it just won't play. Intervideo WinDVD doesn't work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and I have a DVD decoder, and it's recognized and all through the "video decoder check-up utility", and it is set as the preferred decoder.

Try installing codecs:

Is the region of the DVD and the region of your recorder set the same?

Check your color settings and make sure they are at least 16bit. If it's at 16bit and not working, bump it up.
