I have a brand new toshiba laptop that runs windows vista. And when I plug in my ipod, nothing happens, no message pops up, nothing can't be recognized no error message, it's like I never plugged it in at all. What do I do about that?

Try using a different USB port. Does the mp3 player display show connectivity or charging?
